Cockroach Janta Party calls for nationwide protest on Friday over alleged police brutality

Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) on Thursday issued a nationwide call for a "peaceful protest" on Friday, July 24, urging student unions and other organisations to gather across districts in solidarity with those it claimed were victims of police brutality.

In a post on X, CJP announced a campaign titled "Every District. One Day. One Demand." and appealed for coordinated demonstrations across the country.

The post said the protests are aimed at standing "in solidarity with victims of police brutality in across India."


Under a section titled "What & How To Do", the party asked student unions and other organisations to "collaborate and work together for permission and logistics."

It also directed organisers to read out students' demands during the gatherings. "In front of the full gathering, read out the students' demands aloud. Show solidarity to those who faced police brutality," the post said.

The outfit said a detailed standard operating procedure (SOP), protest collaterals and a memorandum template were available on its website for organisers.

The post concluded with the slogans "INQUILAB ZINDABAD" and "BHARAT MATA KI JAI."

Govt pushes for talks

The protest call came even as the Centre renewed its invitation for dialogue with the youth-led outfit. Union Minister Jitendra Singh said the government had sent four formal proposals for discussions with CJP representatives since Wednesday afternoon and remained willing to hold talks at any time.

"The govt has sent four formal proposals for discussions with their representatives since last afternoon...This is a standing invitation to all our youth friends that the government is ready for discussions on all issues at your convenience, at any time," Singh said.

He added that discussions could be held at Union Health Minister J P Nadda's office or residence, saying, "We do not stand on prestige. Union Health Minister JP Nadda and I will be present for discussions. Slowly, by way of discussion, we will progress towards a solution."

According to PTI sources, Nadda also invited CJP leaders for talks on Thursday, but the party declined, reiterating that discussions should be held at a neutral venue, preferably Jantar Mantar.

CJP chief spokesperson Saurav Das said, "We refused to go to anyone's house or office. The people's court is here. Ministers should come among the people. If they want to talk, it should be held at the Jantar Mantar." He, however, said the party remained open to talks at a neutral venue near the protest site if there were security concerns.

Earlier, on July 20, CJP representatives met Nadda to submit their demands, including Pradhan's resignation. The party has maintained that the minister's resignation is "non-negotiable" and has said the agitation will continue until its demands are met.
