CM Pema Khandu condemns UN map depicting Arunachal as disputed

Guwahati: Arunachal Pradesh Chief minister Pema Khandu condemned United Nation Map Depiction of State as Disputed Territory.

Khandu told media persons, “ Government of India has already condemned this incident and on behalf of Arunachal people I also condemn this move of UN depicting Arunachal as a disputed site.” In the recent map, Arunachal Pradesh and Aksai Chin are shown outside of India.

Arunachal Pradesh CM Pema Khandu wrote on X, “India’s borders are not defined by lines on a map alone; they are strengthened by the people who live, work and stand firm along them. Jai Hind! Jai Arunachal!”


Arunachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly Speaker Tesam Pongte said, “We are very much part of India, and India is our motherland.”

Arunachal Pradesh Congress Committee (APCC) president Bosiram Siram has expressed concern over the recent depiction of Arunachal Pradesh and Ladakh on a world map attributed to the United Nations (UN), alleging that the map does not clearly represent the geographical boundaries of the two regions. Siram said the depiction is a matter of serious concern, “as inaccurate or unclear geographical representations could create confusion and misinformation about Arunachal’s territorial identity among the international community.”

He appealed to the central government to take immediate steps to address the issue, and urged it to approach the authorities concerned of the UN for rectification of the map. Siram stressed that the correct geographical representation of Arunachal is important, particularly in view of the state’s strategic location and India’s longstanding territorial position. He called for prompt intervention to ensure that no misleading information regarding the state’s territory is circulated internationally.

He further said that Arunachal is an integral part of India, and said that China should never consider or claim the state as part of its territory. The issue has reportedly triggered public concern and condemnation in Arunachal and elsewhere in the country, with demands for the authorities concerned to ensure that official international maps accurately reflect India’s territorial boundaries.
