Close to 5,000 livestock die in Mizoram due to African Swine Fever

Around 5000 livestock have died in Mizoram owing African Swine Fever (ASF).

Mizoram Chief Minister Zoramthanga tweeted “Piggery farmers and their economic stances are at stake !”

A senior official said that state has witnessed death of 5,027 pigs and piglets since March this year and losses are estimated to be around Rs 20.10 crore.


ASF has engulfed nine out of 11 districts in the state. The size of piggery sector in Northeast India is around Rs 10,000 crore.
