CJP protests: Supreme Court to seek Greater Noida Authority explanation over student notice

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Wednesday said it would seek an explanation from Greater Noida authorities for 'issuing a notice' to a second-year law student who participated in the recent Cockroach Janata Party (CJP)-led protests at Jantar Mantar despite the court's order that no further criminal action be taken against students in connection with the protests.

A three-member bench headed by CJI Surya Kant took note of the issue after senior advocate Biswajeet Bhattacharya mentioned the matter before the court.

Bhattacharya told the bench that an executive magistrate in Greater Noida issued a notice to the student based on inputs from the Noida Police despite the Supreme Court's September 1 order quashing the criminal proceedings arising from the protests.
