Delhi Police has communicated to Abhijeet Dipke about the demise of his grandmother. It is now up to him whether he wants to stay back and continue the protest under detention or fly back for the last rites, Delhi Police sources said.
Dipke was travelling from Mumbai to Delhi to join the CJP’s planned protest at Jantar Mantar demanding Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar’s resignation.
The party said Dipke and fellow leaders Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were detained by Delhi Police from their flight shortly after it landed in the capital.
The CJP had planned the demonstration over allegations of electoral-roll manipulation during the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) and changes relating to Form 6, which is used for voter registration.
Delhi Police had denied permission for the protest, citing security and procedural concerns, and imposed prohibitory orders in the New Delhi area.
With its three leaders in detention, the CJP named organisation in-charge Ajinkya Shinde to lead the protest.
The party has also alleged that Dipke, Das and Ranka were taken to an undisclosed location and denied access to their lawyers and contact with others, demanding their immediate release.
