The Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) on Monday evening issued a high alert across all key installations in the country, including airports, Delhi Metro, heritage sites, and government buildings, following a powerful explosion near the Red Fort Metro Station that left at least eight people dead and several others injured.

The explosion, which occurred around Gate No. 1 of the metro station, triggered a massive fire that engulfed nearby vehicles, sending panic across the national capital. Authorities in Delhi-NCR, Uttar Pradesh, and Mumbai have since been placed on high alert.

The injured were rushed to LNJP Hospital for treatment, officials said. Eyewitnesses reported hearing a loud explosion followed by flames and smoke rising from parked cars in the busy area.

According to the Delhi Fire Department, they received a call reporting a car explosion near the metro station, followed by “blast-like sounds.” Firefighters said the impact caused fires in at least three other vehicles parked nearby.

Senior Delhi Police officials, forensic teams, and the National Investigation Agency (NIA) reached the spot soon after the blast. The area around Red Fort—one of Delhi’s most densely populated and historically significant zones—has been cordoned off as security agencies begin their investigation.

Sources said high alert instructions have been issued in coordination with police units in Delhi, Mumbai, and Uttar Pradesh as a precautionary measure.

Authorities are yet to confirm the cause of the explosion, and an investigation is underway to determine whether explosives were used.
