Chinese President Xi Jinping departs from Delhi after a 24-hour BRICS blitz

Chinese President Xi Jinping on Sunday departed New Delhi after attending the two-day BRICS Summit in New Delhi.

Xi attended the summit sessions at Bharat Mandapam and held his only bilateral meeting during the visit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The two leaders discussed the long-term development of India-China relations and the boundary question.

Xi said India and China should view their relations from a strategic perspective and focus on their long-term development.

He noted that despite differences, the two countries have been able to “support and help each other to achieve common development.” He noted that the two leaders had met more than 20 times during this period, resulting in “a series of important consensuses”.

PM Modi thanked China for its support and cooperation during India's BRICS chairship and said the two sides now had an opportunity to further discuss bilateral cooperation.

The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to a fair, reasonable and mutually acceptable resolution of the India-China boundary question. They also said bilateral ties should be viewed from a strategic and long-term perspective.

China and India are partners, not rivals, Xi said, and the two countries present opportunities for each other's development rather than threats, according to Xinhua.

The leaders welcomed progress in India-China relations since their last meeting in Tianjin in August 2025.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Modi stressed that “differences should not become disputes” and that both sides should be guided by “mutual respect, mutual sensitivity and mutual interest.”

China will take over the BRICS chairship in 2027 and host the 19th BRICS Summit.
