A day after a 50-year-old Unani doctor, was shot dead inside his cabin in Delhi, chilling details of the murder have emerged. One of the two suspects detained by the police revealed that he was hired by the husband of a nurse who suspected Akhtar of having an affair with his wife.

Moreover, the suspect, who is reportedly in love with the nurse's daughter, went on to claim that the nurse's husband promised him his daughter's hand in marriage if killed the doctor, reported TOI. He also admitted to withdrawing money from the husband's ATM account.

In the early hours of Thursday, two juveniles posing as patients, came for treatment at Nima Hospital in southeast Delhi and shot the doctor. The incident happened in Kalindi Kunj area in Delhi's Jaitpur on Thursday.


A police officer said that the doctor was found in a chair with injuries on his head. An initial police investigation suggested that two boys, around 16 years old, arrived at the three-bed Nima Hospital around 1 a.m. for medical dressing. One of the boys had a bandaged toe and had visited the hospital the day before.

After receiving the medical treatment, the boys entered Akhtar's cabin. Shortly after, nursing staff members Gajala Parveen and Mohammad Kamil heard a gunshot. Parveen found Akhtar sitting still in a pool of blood.

'First Murder of 2024'

Police tracked the suspect with the help of hos Instagram account, where he posted a photo with a pistol, with the caption, "First murder of 2024." Officials received a distress call at 1:45 am and found Javed Akhtar's body slumped in a chair.

CCTV footage showed the two boys walking back to the hospital and heading straight to Akhtar's cabin before carrying out the shooting. The investigation is currently underway.
