Situated in the elevated terrains of Tamil Nadu, Thalaikundha faced an uncharacteristic bitter cold, prompting residents to seek refuge indoors urgently. The locals, grappling with the harsh chill, predominantly remained indoors during this unusual cold snap, causing a temporary disruption to the normal pace of life in the village.
Meanwhile, Ooty, one of South India's renowned hill stations, also felt the chill, recording a minimum temperature of 7.5 degrees Celsius. The expansive grasslands in the Nilgiris district transformed into a mesmerizing winter wonderland, with fresh dewdrops blanketing the lush green grass—a phenomenon commonly known as white frost.
This picturesque scene was not limited to Thalaikundha; areas like Ooty Nagar, HPF, Kanthal, and Fingerpost also witnessed the enchanting white frost. The effects of this unusual weather extended beyond the aesthetic, as parked vehicles in these areas found themselves coated with up to an inch of snow. Residents faced challenges in starting their vehicles, highlighting the severity of the cold spell.
Local meteorological officials emphasized the notable fluctuations in both daytime and nighttime temperatures over the past weeks. Daytime temperatures consistently exceeded 25 degrees Celsius, contributing to the unexpected and significant drop in temperature. As the village copes with this unanticipated cold wave, residents are hopeful for a return to milder conditions in the coming days.
