Chhattisgarh businessman gets 9-year jail for compelling wife into unnatural sex

In a significant legal development, a prominent businessman from the Bhilai-Durg twin city in Chhattisgarh has been handed a nine-year rigorous imprisonment (RI) sentence by a fast-track court in Durg. The court's decision comes in response to the businessman's conviction for compelling his wife into unnatural sex and subjecting her to mental and physical torment, including dowry harassment, a TOI report stated.

The distressing incidents unfolded shortly after the couple's marriage in 2007. The wife, a victim of both mental and physical abuse, made the courageous decision to leave her in-laws' residence, choosing to raise her daughter as a single mother. In 2016, she took a stand against the injustice she had endured, lodging a complaint at Supela police station on May 7, 2016, under IPC Section 377 for unnatural sex and Section 498A for dowry harassment against her husband and his parents.

The court's ruling reflected the severity of the crime, stating, "Considering the nature of the crime, granting the benefit of probation to the accused would not be justifiable." The businessman, found guilty under IPC Section 377, a punishable offense, received a nine-year RI sentence. Additionally, he was sentenced to a year's RI and fined Rs 1,000 under IPC Section 323 for voluntarily causing hurt, with both sentences running concurrently.


This legal outcome extends to the businessman's parents, who were each sentenced to 10 months in jail on the same charges. The court's decision underscores the gravity of crimes related to unnatural sex and dowry harassment, reinforcing the commitment to justice in cases of such nature.
