Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel HD Kumaraswamy

Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel HD Kumaraswamy on Thursday submitted a proposal to Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal seeking the development of industrial parks across multiple districts in Karnataka.

The minister's proposal has identified districts such as Mandya, Mysuru, Bidar, Raichur, Hubli–Dharwad, Hassan, Kolar, Mangaluru and Chamarajanagar, with their sector-specific potential for industrial growth. Kumarswamy had asked the Centre to include these districts under national industrial corridor programmes (NICDP). He said these regions have strong potential for manufacturing, agri-processing, logistics and other industrial activities.

Piyush Goyal acknowledged the proposal and assured that the Centre would take it up on a large scale, aligning with the government’s broader plan to strengthen manufacturing and improve industrial competitiveness.

If approved, the proposed parks are expected to support job creation, strengthen supply chain linkages, and attract private investment across northern, central and southern Karnataka. Districts like Hubli–Dharwad and Mangaluru have been identified for logistics and manufacturing, while Mysuru, Raichur and Kolar could see activity in value-added sectors such as agri-processing and light engineering.

The initiative is part of Karnataka’s effort to broaden industrial growth beyond Bengaluru and build a distributed manufacturing base across the state. The proposal also comes at a time when several states are competing to secure projects under national industrial corridor schemes, which offer central support for infrastructure and integrated industrial development.

Officials said both ministries are expected to hold follow-up discussions to evaluate the feasibility of the sites and the sectors.
