Centre extends ED director’s tenure after ordinances

SK Mishra, an Indian Revenue Service officer, superannuated in May 2020 and was given a year extension in November 2020. His extended tenure was set to expire this week.

Vide the two ordinances the Centre had amended the Delhi Special Police Establishment Act and the Central Vigilance Commission Act to extend the tenures of directors of the CBI and ED.
After bringing in ordinances extending the tenures of directors of the Central Bureau of Investigation and the Enforcement Directorate up to a maximum of five years, the Narendra Modi government on Wednesday extended the tenure of ED director SK Mishra by another year.

Mishra, an Indian Revenue Service officer, superannuated in May 2020 and was given a year extension in November 2020. His extended tenure was set to expire this week. Mishra was initially appointed as ED director for two years beginning November 2018.

The order issued by the department of revenue under the Union finance ministry said the “President of India is pleased to extend the tenure of Shri Sanjay Kumar Mishra, IRS (IT:84006) as Director of Enforcement for a period of one year beyond 18.11.2021, ie, up to 18.11.2022, or until further orders, whichever is earlier”.
