The union health ministry is closely monitoring the Covid-19 situation in Maharashtra, Kerala, Delhi, and Karnataka and has instructed the states to follow the five-fold strategy to curtail the increasing number of Covid cases.

The strategy devised includes testing people with aid of rapid diagnostic tests, tracking down confirmed cases of Covid-19, treating people by providing them with required medications and increasing the current vaccination rate along with following Covid safety protocols in public places.

The decision comes a few days after the four states reported a sharp rise in the positivity rate for Covid-19 cases.

India reported a total of 7,240 active Covid-19 cases on June 9. This is the first time since March 1 that the daily number of active cases has breached the 7,000 mark. In the month of June, over 39,400 fresh cases have been reported in India.
