Central team visits North Sikkim to assess damages

​​The central team members - power ministry director RK Meena, jal shakti executive engineer Sashwat Rai and SSDMA director Prabhakar Rai - flew by helicopter from Burtuk airport for north Sikkim.

An inter-ministerial central team, led by Union Ministry of Home Affairs' joint secretary Anant Kishore Saran, will visit the affected areas of north Sikkim to assess damages.

The central team members - power ministry director RK Meena, jal shakti executive engineer Sashwat Rai and SSDMA director Prabhakar Rai - flew by helicopter from Burtuk airport for north Sikkim.

The Indian Army said: "Displaying great synergy, 2,426 stranded tourists and civilians were evacuated through the composite foot crossing created over Teesta by the united effort of BRO, Army, ITBP and other government agencies."


The second day of the air evacuation process began on Tuesday. Army helicopters have rescued 76 people, including six children.
