To control the retail prices of atta and chana dal, the central government has been selling the food items at subsidised rates under the brand name of Bharat Atta and Bharat Dal. Bharat Atta and Dal is currently sold at all physical and mobile outlets of Kendriya Bhandar, NAFED and NCCF and is being expanded to other cooperative and retail outlets. The government has also launched mobile vans for sale of Bharat Atta and Bharat Dal.

Bharat Atta @Rs 27.5 per kg

Bharat Atta is available at an MRP not exceeding Rs 27.50/kg while Bharat Dal at Rs 60 kg per kg. The central government has allocated 2.5 lakh metric tonnes of wheat at Rs.21.50/kg to semi-government and cooperative organizations like Kendriya Bhandar, NCCF (National Cooperative Consumer's Federation of India, an apex body of consumer cooperatives) and NAFED under Open Market Sale Scheme for conversion to atta and sale to the public under 'Bharat Atta' brand at a price of Rs 27.50/Kg. Providing an update, the government said that till 14th November, 15337 MT of wheat under Bharat Atta scheme has been lifted by these these three cooperative societies for conversion into atta.


Bharat Dal @Rs 60 per kg

The chana dal stock under price stabilization fund is being released under the brand name of Bharat Dal through retail outlets of NAFED, NCCF, Kendriya Bhandar, Safal and some other cooperatives like Hyderabad Agricultural Cooperatives Association. Till 6th November, 59183 MT dal has already been sold under the Bharat Dal brand. A price stabilization fund (PSF) has been set up to check the volatility in the prices of agri-horticultural commodities and the government has provided budgetary support of Rs.27,489.15 crore so far from 2014-15 towards this fund.


Under the PSF, buffer stock of pulses (Tur, Urad, Moong, Masur and Gram) and onion are being maintained and stocks are released in a calibrated manner to check prices. .

To control domestic prices, India has already been banned exports in order to ensure sufficient domestic availability of this commodity. The government has also imposed limits on stock holding of wheat by different entities like wholesalers/traders, processors, retailers and big chain retailers, to prevent hoarding. The government has also banned export of non- basmati rice and imposed a floor price. The Department of Consumer Affairs monitors the daily retail and wholesale prices of 22 essential food commodities through 545 price monitoring centres in 34 States/UTs.
