Bollywood actor Imran Khan arrives at the Bombay High Court, which has granted him interim relief against an expulsion order over his alleged participation in a protest against the election chief.

Bombay High court has permitted Bollywood actor Imran Khan to stay in the country until at least November 2, local media reported on Tuesday. The decision pauses a government directive that ordered him to leave for allegedly violating immigration rules by taking part in a protest.

Khan, a 43-year-old US citizen, had been instructed to exit the country by October 28 following allegations that he joined demonstrations in Mumbai against the nation's election chief earlier this month.

According to Indian law, foreign nationals participating in political protests may be considered in violation of visa and immigration regulations.

Khan challenged the expulsion order in the Bombay High Court, arguing that the directive was "unconstitutional and arbitrary," according to local media reports.
