CBSE re-evaluation portal keeps lakhs of students guessing

NEW DELHI: The re-evaluation portal of the Central Board of Secondary Education remained inactive till press time on Monday, the day the post-result portal was scheduled to go live, leaving lakhs of students in distress and suspense over the issue.

ET has learnt that the delay was on account of securing the portal from cyberattacks. CBSE is aiming at closing the re-evaluation process around its usual window of June 15-16, with a margin of another 4-5 days, sources indicated.

CBSE put out a post on X at around 2 pm on Monday, stating that the 'verification and re-evaluation portal will go live soon' and an 'official announcement will follow'.

Over four lakh students are awaiting the portal's activation amid serious doubts over their Class 12 board mark evaluation through the new on-screen marking mechanism. Many are seeking verification of their answer sheets while others have applied for re-evaluation of their answer sheets.

The case is trying for those who may have appeared for the joint entrance examination (JEE). With JEE Advanced results - for admission to IITs - declared on Monday, a new complexity has arisen for students who may not be meeting the eligibility criteria due to Class 12 scores.

Amid the controversy surrounding the re-evaluation, the Joint Seat Allocation Authority - responsible for managing seat allocation for admissions to IITs, NITs, IIITs and GFTIs - has said that students should register for counselling "irrespective of the marks or percentage obtained in the Class 12 (or equivalent) examination".
