CBI searches Shajahan Sheikh's house in Sandeshkhali

Kolkata: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has started investigations at suspended Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shajahan’s residence in Sarberia in Sandeshkhali on Friday in connection with the attack on ED officials on January 5. The CBI had taken over the probe-related documents and the custody of Shahjahan Sheikh from the state agency CID on Wednesday following a Calcutta High Court order.

A CBI team, accompanied by CFSL experts and central forces, visited Sheikh’s house and started a probe and collected evidence from his house and from Akunchipara locality, where a mob had assembled on the day of the attack, people in the know said. Two mobile phones which were retrieved, are under the CBI scanner.

The search operations continued for more than five hours and the house was sealed after the completion of the search. After the preliminary investigation, the CBI said: “Several incriminating documents and material exhibits have been seized during the searches.”


Another CBI team visited the market in Sandeshkhali, which is also owned by the former Trinamool leader, and his fishery business office which is adjacent to it, sources told ET.

Meanwhile, Sheikh is being interrogated in the presence of the officials who were injured in the attack on January 5. He was taken to the central government-run ESI hospital on Friday for medical check-up.
