The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) submitted a supplementary chargesheet on Monday, which mentions the names of Trinamool heavyweight Anubrata Mondal’s former security personnel Saigal Hossain, Bikash Mishra and Abdul Latif, before a CBI special court in Asansol in connection with the multi-crore cattle smuggling scam. This is the third supplementary chargesheet submitted in this case.

Meanwhile, Birbhum district president of the TMC Anubrata Mondal skipped a summons by the CBI for the eighth time. Mondal had appeared before the CBI only once in May. Mondal went to SSKM Hospital for a medical check-up. However, the hospital authorities claimed there was no need for admission, following which he left for Birbhum. A seven-member board was formed to monitor Mondal’s health, which opined that there was no need for admission to hospital while he may continue his medication for his chronic diseases.

The CBI is keeping a close watch on Mondal’s medical reports and held a high-level meeting with officials in Delhi and legal experts.

Anubrata Mondal was summoned for interrogation on Monday, following recent searches at 13 locations including in Kolkata and Birbhum district. Meanwhile, a close aide of Mondal, Saigal Hossain, who was named in the chargesheet on Monday, is in judicial custody.

The CBI had recently conducted searches at 13 locations including in Kolkata and Birbhum district at the residence of two persons, known to be close aides of Mondal, as part of their investigation into the cattle smuggling case. The houses of Md Nazzibuddin alias Tulu Mondal, Abdul Karim Khan and Jiyaula Haque Sekh alias Mukto were searched.

During the searches, cash of Rs 17 lakh, electronic devices including 10 mobile phones, pen drives, hard discs, several incriminating documents and locker keys were recovered, the agency said.
