Meanwhile, the West Bengal chief secretary gave details about the progress of work, as demanded by the West Bengal Junior Doctor's Front (WBJDF), to ensure the safety and security of the health workers and urged them to join work.
The WBJDF has given a call for a mega protest on Tuesday and urged people, including doctors, nurses, people from various organisations, and the common people to participate. A symbolic hunger strike will be observed in all medical colleges on Tuesday. WBJDF, the umbrella organisation of junior doctors, is observing a fast unto death protest at Esplanade, for the third consecutive day on Monday.
Junior doctors and the public gheraoed Bowbazar police station when the wooden beds they were moving to the dharna site were stopped and seized.
Kolkata Commissioner of Police (CP) Manoj Kumar Verma said the city police would take appropriate action against the seven junior doctors, who are on a fast-unto-death protest, at Esplanade.
Talking about the measures taken to improve the health infrastructure, Chief Secretary Manoj Pant said, "At least 90% of the work will be completed by October 10. Everything will be operational from October 15." He urged the protesting doctors to join work.
"In 28 medical colleges and hospitals, 7,051 CCTV cameras will be installed. More than 45% installation is complete. Real time bed availability system will also be in place. The aim is to create a safe and security environment. Everyone is working together. The Supreme Court has also given directions to ensure a safe and secured work environment," the CS added.
Panic buttons have been installed, he said. The state government is setting up a real-time digital referral system, which is one of the demands put forward by the doctors. Pant said, "A pilot project will start in mid-October and the system will be set up across the state from November. The chief minister has held a meeting on this," he said.
Meanwhile, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) has appealed before the Alipore Special Court seeking permission to interrogate former RG Kar Principal Sandip Ghosh, a local businessman Biplab Singha and Ghosh's security guard Afsar Ali Khan for four days in the jail.
