CBI files an FIR in connection with Congress Councillor Tapan Kandu's murder

Meanwhile, a man Niranjan Biswas close to Kandu has committed suicide and has mentioned in his suicide note that he was under pressure from police after Tapan Kandu's death.

Tapan’s wife had claimed that Jhalda Police Station In-Charge (IC) used to regularly call the deceased Tapan Kandu to intimidate him and the IC was close to Trinamool Congress.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed an FIR in connection with Congress Councillor Tapan Kandu’s murder probe on Wednesday. A Central agency team reached Kandu's village in Purulia for investigation today.
The Calcutta High Court on Monday ordered CBI investigation into murder of Purulia’s Jhalda Congress Councillor Tapan Kandu, who was shot dead by some miscreants at point blank range on March 13.

Meanwhile, a man Niranjan Biswas close to Kandu has committed suicide and has mentioned in his suicide note that he was under pressure from police after Tapan Kandu's death.


Kandu’s murder had created political furore after civic polls result in West Bengal, in which Trinamool Congress had a landslide victory.

The Single Bench Justice Rajsekhar Mantha on Monday ordered that all the documents related to the case should be immediately handed over to the CBI by the West Bengal Police and SIT. The CBI has been directed to submit a report by 45 days.

The victim Tapan Kandu’s wife Purnima had demanded a CBI investigation and had moved Calcutta High Court demanding for CBI probe.

On March 13, two newly-elected councillors, including the Congress councillor from Purulia’s Jhalda, were shot dead at point blank range, ahead of the formation of the municipal civic boards. Elections were held to 108 civic bodies across the state recently in which the Trinamool Congress had a landslide victory.

Tapan’s wife had claimed that Jhalda Police Station In-Charge (IC) used to regularly call the deceased Tapan Kandu to intimidate him and the IC was close to Trinamool Congress.

It is pertinent to mention that Purulia district Superintendent S Selva Murugan yesterday, in a press conference, had given clean chit to the IC Sanjib Ghosh and referred the issue as “family feud.”
