CBI conducts searches in alleged espionage case against journalist

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Tuesday conducted searches at 12 locations spread across the National Capital Region (NCR), Jaipur etc. at the premises of accused & others in an on-going investigation of a case pertaining to leaking of classified information to intelligence agencies of foreign countries.

The CBI had registered a case in December last year against freelance defence journalist Vivek Raghuvanshi under Section 3 of the Official Secret Act and criminal conspiracy. The agency has alleged that Raghuvanshi was involved in the illegal collection of sensitive information, including minute details of DRDO defence projects.

The CBI further alleged that thjournalist collected sensitive details about the future procurement of Indian armed forces which reveal the strategic preparedness of the country’s classified communications/ information relating to national security, details diplomatic talks of India with friendly countries and sharing such classified information with intelligence agencies of foreign countries.
