In a case of mistaken identity the security personnel opened fire and injured two civilians in Arunachal Pradesh’s Tirap district.

The injured were rushed to Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) in Dibrugarh. The security personnel launched an operation between Hollam and Khowathong under Chasa village in Tirap district and fired injuring Nokphua Wangpan and Ramwang Wangsu, who were returning home after fishing late on Friday evening

The Deputy Commissioner of the Tirap district, Taro Mize told media persons that two people were injured in case of mistaken identity. “Security forces have admitted their mistake.”


The incident took place on Friday evening when 12 para troopers jawans mistook the villagers for militants. A senior official in the state government said, “These villagers had gone fishing and were moving with sacks, they were four of them. “

A victim who is undergoing treatment said they were shot from the back. “We were allowed to go and later shots were fired from the back.”

The official said, “The victims are provided Rs 2 lakh compensation and they are seeking a government job. The victim has suffered injury in legs and hands and is out of danger.”

On December 4 last year in Oting in Nagaland 14 civilians and one security personnel died in a firing incident. This was a case of mistaken identity.

Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by Nagaland government to probe the Oting massacre December 4 and 5 has submitted its preliminary report.

The 22-member SIT team that included five Indian Police Service officers examined and recorded the statements of officers and jawans who were involved in an ambush.
