The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has taken suo motu cognisance of the alleged physical abuse and torture of children at a daycare centre operating inside Capgemini's Bengaluru campus in Brookfield and has deputed a team to conduct a fact-finding inquiry.

In a letter addressed to Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner P S Kantharaju, the child rights body said its team, headed by Senior Technical Expert Paresh Shah, will visit Bengaluru on Friday to investigate the allegations.

The commission said it took cognisance of the matter based on media reports alleging serious child rights violations involving very young children at the daycare centre located in the Brookefield area of Whitefield.

"The matter regarding alleged serious child rights violations involving very young children came to the notice through media reports. NCPCR takes suo motu cognisance of this alleged abuse of children at a daycare in Bengaluru, Karnataka," the commission said in a post on X.

The move comes after videos purportedly showing children being subjected to physical abuse at the daycare sparked widespread outrage. Police have arrested five women employed at the facility and registered a case under relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Juvenile Justice Act.
