The decision is to give impetus to the participation of local youths in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and encourage regional languages, an official statement said.
In addition to Hindi and English, the question paper will be set in 13 regional languages -- Assamese, Bengali, Gujarati, Marathi, Malayalam, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Odia, Urdu, Punjabi, Manipuri and Konkani.
Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin recently wrote a letter to Home Minister Amit Shah, urging him to include Tamil as one of the languages for the written exam in the recruitment of CRPF personnel. Shortly after this request, the Ministry of Home Affairs made a landmark decision to conduct the constable (general duty) examination for Central Armed Police Forces in 13 regional languages, including Tamil. Previously, the recruitment notification had only mentioned that the exam could be taken in English and Hindi.
