Canadian PM Mark Carney holds bilateral talks with PM Narendra Modi, calls it a 'new era of partnership'

This is Carney’s first official visit to India since assuming office. He arrived on February 27, beginning his trip in Mumbai before travelling to New Delhi. He is scheduled to depart later on Monday after concluding his engagements in the capital.
Earlier in the day, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar called on the visiting leader and welcomed his commitment to advancing bilateral ties.
“Delighted to call on Prime Minister Mark J Carney of Canada in New Delhi this morning. Appreciate his commitment towards charting a forward-looking partnership,” Jaishankar said in a post on X.
Carney was received at the airport on Sunday evening by Union Minister of State for Commerce and Industry and Electronics and Information Technology Jitin Prasada.
Monday’s delegation-level talks build on earlier meetings between Modi and Carney on the sidelines of the G7 Summit in Kananaskis in June 2025 and the G20 Summit in Johannesburg in November 2025.
In addition to reviewing ongoing cooperation, the two leaders also exchanged views on regional and global developments. They are scheduled to attend the India-Canada CEOs Forum.
