Canada's intelligence community has not yet identified any Indian citizens with links to the killing of Khalistani separatist leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar.

According to a Times of India report, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and the Canadian Security Intelligence Service (CSIS) have been working to figure out of any Indian-origin agents came through Canadian borders around the time Nijjar was killed.

The Khalistani leader was killed on June 18, in British Columbia's Surrey region, outside the gurdwara he was the president of.

Their attempts have, so far, been futile, according to TOI sources.

According to the report, the delay in finding any association to the subcontinent likely means that Nijjar's killers have likely fled Canada.

So far, the investigation has found two suspicious vehicles - a burnt car and a silver 2008 Toyota Camry - which were supposedly the getaway vehicles used by assassins after the murder.

These findings fit the pattern of past gang-related killings in the region.

A Washington Post report said that Nijjar's killers also aimed a gun at one of his aides but did not fire. A senior intelligence agent explains that this level of restraint is driven by an intense resolve to settle a personal score while still being conscious enough to not cause collateral damage.

In addition to this, the Khalistani leader's family has said in multiple interviews that he was in contact with the CSIS, but it wasn't immediately clear if he was an informant for them.
