A terrorist listing in Canada gives the federal government the power to freeze or seize property, vehicles and money, along with giving Canadian law enforcement additional tools to prosecute terrorist offences.
This comes days after NSA Ajit Doval met his Canadian counterpart Nathalie Drouin here to discuss counterterror and security partnership to counter Khalistani extremism.
Jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi's brother Anmol, who had earlier claimed responsibility for the firing outside the house of actor Salman Khan in Mumbai, is wanted by NIA in multiple cases involving terrorist-gangster links. The group was also behind the killing of NCP leader Baba Siddiqui.
Lawrence, according to NIA officials, continues to be involved in criminal activities despite being in jail. He has never applied for bail.
NIA and police in several states have questioned Lawrence in cases of extortion and targeted killing. It has drawn comparison between him and Dawood Ibrahim and noted this in charge sheets. Like Ibrahim, he has become a 'notorious gangster and started assisting terrorist groups'.
