Mohan Yadav has been chosen the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP) pick as the new Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh. His nomination comes as a big surprise as Yadav was not seen among the frontrunners for the top job. Minutes before his name was announced by the BJP as CM designate, Yadav had shared group photos of newly elected MLAs. In those photos, you can spot him in the middle row. He has been elected from Ujjain Dakshin's seat and was cabinet minister in the Madhya Pradesh government headed by Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Earlier in the day, BJP central observers Manohar Lal Khattar, Dr K Laxman and Asha Lakra of Madhya Pradesh held a legislative party meeting.

Madhya Pradesh will have also have two Deputy Chief Ministers - Jagdisgh Devda and Rajesh Shukla - while Union Minister Narendra Tomar will be Madhya Pradesh Assembly Speaker.





After Mohan Yadav was chosen as the new Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh, he thanked state as well as central leadership while affirming that his government will try to fulfil all responsibilities. "I am a small worker of the party. I thank all of you, the state leadership and the central leadership. With your love and support, I will try to fulfil my responsibilities," Madhya Pradesh CM-designate Mohan Yadav said.

Yadav became MLA for the first time in 2013 from Ujjain Dakshin's seat. In the 2018 Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections, he was once again elected and became MLA from the Ujjain Dakshin seat. In July, 2020, he took the oath as cabinet minister in the Madhya Pradesh Government headed by Shivraj Singh Chouhan. After 2018 assembly polls, the Congress returned to power with veteran leader Kamal Nath taking the oath as the chief minister but a political upheaval rocked the state. The Congress government fell after being reduced to a minority and the BJP formed the government, with Shivraj Singh Chouhan returning as chief minister.

In the 2023 elections, BJP emerged victorious with a thumping majority, bagging 163 seats, while the Congress finished a distant second at 66 seats.

After Mohan Yadav was elected as the new Chief Minister designate of Madhya Pradesh, his wife told ANI: "Bhagwan Mahakal ka ashirwad hai, party ka ashirwad hai. He has been working with the BJP since 1984.".
