The PGT doctor was raped and murdered at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9, 2024.
Justice Tirthankar Ghosh asked a number of questions to the federal agency, asking whether they consider this to be a case of gangrape and if so, who are the suspects in such gangrape. The court has sought a case diary from CBI and the central agency should submit the replies by March 28.
The court also questioned CBI if the convicted Sanjay Roy is the sole accused and what are the Sections under which framing the charges have been done.
Notably, parents had claimed about involvement of other accused in the case. The court has asked CBI to submit the case diary and questioned about further investigations, after Roy was convicted.
If there are instances of evidence tampering in the case, Ghosh has asked CBI during the hearing.
The family has urged further probe under the monitoring under the court. The family had claimed why nurses and security personnel, deployed on duty on the night of occurrence, were not questioned. The family had claimed that assistant Superintendent, who had called the family on August 9, was not questioned in the case.
“The court has asked to submit the case diary by Friday. We have faith in the High Court,” the victim’s father said.
“My daughter was a victim of Institutional murder. Hope this will be considered as court will be monitoring the case, the victim’s mother said. The family sought further probe which will be court monitored and also sought a formation of SIT.
“The court has asked the CBI to submit the case diary,” the advocate told mediapersons.
The Supreme Court on March 17 permitted the Calcutta High Court to proceed to hear a pending writ petition filed by the parents of the victim in the RG Kar rape-murder incident seeking further investigation. The bench of CJI Sanjiv Khanna had heard the case.
An on-duty trainee doctor was raped and murdered inside the seminar room of RG Kar Medical Hospital on August 9 last year. Roy was arrested by the Kolkata Police the next day. The Calcutta High Court had on August 13 handed over the investigation to the CBI.
