Calcutta HC adjourns Nandigram vote-counting case to December 1

After her defeat in Nandigram, West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee had alleged that the Returning Officer of the Assembly seat had said he was threatened against recounting of votes.

The Court has asked the Nandigram MLA and Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari to file a written response by November 29.
The Calcutta High Court on Monday adjourned the hearing for Nandigram counting case to December 1.

The Judge Sampa Sarkar hearing the case said that Adhikari should submit his written response by November 29.


The results of the state assembly poll results were announced on May 2. LoP Suvendu Adhikari won the Nandigram seat with a margin of around 1956 votes.

On July 13, Justice Kausik Chanda recused himself from the hearing of the petition filed by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over Nandigram poll results, the matter was then allotted to the Bench of Justice Sampa Sarkar of Calcutta High Court. The Calcutta High Court had fined Rs 5 lakhs on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for putting the judiciary.

The AITC had a landslide victory in polls winning 213 seats in the 294-member West Bengal assembly. The BJP lost the polls but emerged as the second-largest party with 77 seats. Later, Mamata Banerjee won with a margin of 57,000 plus votes.
