Burns, broken teeths, head injuries: Army officer, wife arrested for brutal assault on teenager domestic help in Assam

In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through Haflong in Assam's Dima Hasao district, an Army officer and his wife have been arrested for the brutal assault of their domestic help. As per a TOI report, the 16-year-old girl, who had been employed at the residence of the Army officer for the past two years, endured physical abuse for approximately one year.

Dima Hasao SP Mayank Kumar revealed the horrifying details of the girl's condition, stating, "Injury marks are spotted from head to toe. Burn injuries, bruises, and head injuries have been spotted on her body. Doctors have also found teeth, nose, and ear of the victim broken. The condition of the girl is critical, and she is undergoing treatment."

This harrowing incident came to light after a video of the girl, displaying the extent of her injuries, was widely circulated on social media platforms on September 24. In response to this distressing revelation, law enforcement acted swiftly, leading to the arrest of the Army officer and his wife on September 25.


Mayank Kumar further informed, "A case has been registered under the stringent POCSO and SC/ST Acts and other relevant sections. Charges of assault, unlawful labor, and slavery have also been added."

The couple has now been remanded to judicial custody by a court as the investigation into this deeply disturbing case unfolds. The local community and authorities are closely monitoring the situation, with concerns growing over the welfare of the young victim and the need for justice in this appalling incident.
