Buddhist teachings by Indian masters gave courage to face Tibet crisis: Dalai Lama

Dalai Lama on Friday said as a child in Tibet, he was inspired by Buddhist teachings of compassion and wisdom written by Indian masters. He said these writings would not let him lose hope and give resilience amid the current situation in his nation.

Addressing the second and final day of Global Buddhist Summit, organised by the Union Culture Ministry and and the International Buddhist Confederation, the Tibetan Buddhist leader emphasised on the Buddhist teachings of compassion and wisdom.

Talking about Tibetan culture and underlining the relevance of these two virtues of compassion and wisdom, he said, "I can also share with you that by engaging in this kind of inner development, particularly focusing on wisdom and compassion, it really can help increase our courage as well." Citing the case of Tibet, he said, "For example, in the case of my dealing with the current struggle and situation of Tibet, if you just think only about it from a narrow angle, you can lose your hope. But if you look at this crisis, look at this current situation, from the broader perspective of the courage that the cultivation of Bodhicitta and compassion give you, then you can have a much more resilient mind."
