New Delhi: BSF on Wednesday said that Lakshmipur Border Outpost in South Bengal thwarted a gold smuggling attempt along the Bangladesh border. The estimated market value of the seized gold is ₹2,42,94,960. Acting on a tipoff, BSF apprehended a smuggler red-handed while he was trying to smuggle gold from Bangladesh into India. During the operation, troops seized a gold bar and 16 gold biscuits, weighing a total of 2.451 kg.

During questioning, the smuggler revealed that he had received the gold from a person in Laxmipur village and was on his way to deliver it to an unknown individual at the Bangaon bus stand, the investigators said.
