BSF chief Praveen Kumar reviews coastal border security and fencing work in Sundarbans
New Delhi: Less than a week after Union home minister Amit Shah unveiled a quadrangular security grid for border districts, the Border Security Force (BSF) and Punjab Police operationally assessed the areas along the India-Bangladesh border and India-Pakistan border in Punjab. BSF director general Praveen Kumar visited the highly sensitive coastal areas along the India-Bangladesh boundary in the deep Sundarban Delta and adjacent areas.

In a statement on Tuesday, the BSF said, "DG reviewed the operational readiness of troops deployed in the area, besides border security grid & ongoing fencing works. As part of public outreach, DG BSF met with local residents and government officials posted in the area. He thanked border communities for extending their full cooperation with troops & reaffirmed BSF's commitment to stronger public-force ties."


In Punjab, director general of police Punjab Gaurav Yadav said on X, "The Counter Intelligence, Amritsar busts a cross-border narcotics smuggling module, apprehends two operatives, and recovers 30 kg of Heroin."

Preliminary investigation reveals that the accused were operating on the directions of a foreign-based handler linked to cross border smugglers. They were involved in collecting heroin consignments from different locations and delivering them to other parties across Punjab. An FIR has been registered under the NDPS Act. Further investigation is underway to establish forward and backward linkages.
