Aviation giant Boeing India has offered to set up a 200 oxygenated bed hospital at the KPCL site at Yelahanka.

This is expected to ease demand for oxygen a bit as the site has oxygen supply linkage from the KPCL gas plant.

Chief minister BS Yediyurappa informed this to finance minister Nirmala Sitharaman in a letter, while requesting her intervention with the US plane maker to set up a similar hospital with 250 oxygen beds at Kalaburagi so that it will serve neighbouring districts as well. The entire region, the chief minister said, lacks medical infrastructure and has been badly hit by the pandemic .

The sudden surge in Covid-19 cases has led to an increase in demand for oxygen. Karnataka, the CM said, may require 1500 tonnes by May 15 while the allocation stood at 965 tonnes a day.
