BRICS Summit 2026: PM Modi to host leaders as India pushes startups, supply chains, green energy agenda

New Delhi: The 18th BRICS Summit, under India's presidency, will open on September 12 with a closed-door leaders' session on "Inclusive Global Governance and Strengthening Multilateralism".

After the session, the leaders will visit the Bharat Innovates exhibition, followed by a joint tree plantation and a dinner hosted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for leaders of the 11 BRICS members.

On September 13 BRICS leaders and BRICS partner countries will hold a joint session. Several bilateral meetings between India and other BRICS partners and BRICS members are expected on the sidelines of the BRICS Summit.


The BRICS Business Forum will be held here on Friday on the eve of the Summit. Modi and the Russian President will hold their bilateral meeting here on Friday and will jointly visit Innoprom.India (joint industrial exhibition). All eyes will be on the Chinese President's visit, happening after a gap of seven years. Modi and President Xi Jinping are expected to hold a meeting on the margins of the Summit.

Among other leaders who are expected for the Summit include Presidents of Iran, Indonesia and South Africa besides the Foreign Ministers and senior leaders from other member states. From among the BRICS Partner countries, the President of Kazakhstan and the PM of Malaysia are expected to attend the Summit.

India will use its BRICS chairship to push the grouping towards practical, development-oriented outcomes in startups, innovation, resilient supply chains and green energy, while seeking greater trade in national currencies and reforms of global institutions at the 18th Brics Summit.

India's chairship is guided by the theme 'Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability', reflecting Modi's vision of a people-centric approach rooted in the spirit of 'humanity first', an official said.

Amid pressure on global supply chains, the summit is expected to adopt a BRICS Logistics Supply-Chain Cooperation Framework to strengthen the resilience, efficiency and sustainability of cross-sector transport logistics and supply chains among BRICS members.

A key outcome could be the creation of a BRICS Startup Innovation Fund, building on India's successes in the sector, it is understood. There is a recommendation to establish a dedicated institutional mechanism for governance, fund management and operations of the proposed fund, with voluntary mobilisation of public and private financing for innovative and scalable startup-led solutions across BRICS countries.

A digital interface could also be created to connect national nodal agencies, selected incubators and startups across BRICS countries.
