BRICS must move ‘from files to real life impact’, PM Modi says as New Delhi summit ends

Prime Minister Narendra Modi delivered his closing remarks at the at BRICS Session on Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability, marking the conclusion of the 18th BRICS Summit in New Delhi. He urged partner nations to convert the discussed frameworks from 'files to real life impact'.

"We must translate all outcomes into time-bound actions that deliver last-mile impact. We will work together to ensure that our framework moves beyond mere documentation and creates a tangible impact in real life," he said.

The prime minister said, "Your important thoughts and suggestions have given both breadth and depth to our cooperation. Your presence is a testament to the growing relevance, openness and inclusiveness of BRICS," adding that the discussions over the past two days have further strengthened the belief that "BRICS is not merely a group of countries, but an ecosystem of solutions."

The BRICS members unanimously agreed to the New Delhi Declaration 2026 on Saturday, releasing a joint statement with the consensus of all the partners.

We hope that the ‘New Delhi Declaration’ adopted at this summit will serve as a reflection of our shared vision, he added.

As the BRICS Summit 2026 concluded in New Delhi, India handed over the baton to China as the next BRICS chairship.

He lauded the BRICS member nations saying, "Your significant ideas and suggestions have lent both breadth and depth to our cooperation. Your presence stands as a testament to the growing relevance, openness, and inclusiveness of BRICS."

As BRICS is poised to enter its third decade, he emphasised that the world now expects concrete results from the group, and not just ideas and commitments.

"I am confident that through our collective efforts, we will certainly live up to these expectations," he added.

During the concluding session, Jai Shroff, Chair, BRICS Business Council and Chairman & Group CEO, UPL Ltd. presented a guide for the four pillars of India's Chairmanship:

• Resilience
• Innovation
• Cooperation
• Sustainability

"...Our opportunity is to connect the strengths more effectively, to trade more with one another, to invest more in one another, build strong value chains, share technologies and create new partnerships among businesses. BRICS already has an enormous economic capacity. Our task now is to translate more than that into opportunities...The resilience gives our economy strength, innovation gives us competitiveness, cooperation gives them skill and sustainability gives them longevity. The opportunity before us is to bring all four together..." he Shriff said.

The Chairperson of the BRICS Women's Business Alliance (WBA), Avarna Jain recommended focus on four broad areas:

• Creating the conditions for women-led enterprises to grow
• Expanding access to capital and innovation
• Strengthening resilience through women-led solutions
• Taking what works to scale across BRICS

Jain highlighted that women are building businesses, creating jobs, driving innovation and contributing growth across BRICS countries, and the next tep is to enable more women entrepreneurs to move from participation to leadership, from small enterprise to scale and from success in one market to opportunities.

"Women's economic empowerment and leadership are not a sectoral issue; it is an economic strategy," she added.
