The Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) Monday arrested Aarti Singal, the erstwhile vice chairman of now insolvent Bhushan Power & Steel Ltd (BPSL).

The anti-fraud investigation office has been probing BPSL and its erstwhile management for alleged irregularities under the Company Law for issues pertaining to corporate governance.

Other than the SFIO, BPSL is being probed by multiple agencies including the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and the Enforcement Directorate (ED).

In 2019, CBI had issued a look out circulars (LoCs) against Aarti and her husband, Sanjay Singal in their case. LoC is a preventive measure taken by probe agencies as it prohibits fioreign travel.

In the same year, SFIO had filed a chargesheet against 285 individuals and entities.
