The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to entertain a petition alleging irregularities in the Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) exam and police atrocities on protesters. The plea sought judicial intervention into the alleged discrepancies in the examination process and the mistreatment of candidates who had been protesting against the exam's conduct.

The bench acknowledged the sentiments expressed by the petitioner but advised them to approach the Patna High Court with their grievances.

What is the BPSC row in Bihar?

Over five lakh candidates appeared for the Combined Competitive Exams (CCE) on December 13, but the exam process was marred by controversy when hundreds of candidates at Patna's Bapu Pariksha Parisar staged a boycott, claiming that the question papers had been leaked.

The Bihar Public Service Commission (BPSC) strongly denied these allegations, labeling them as "a conspiracy" aimed at forcing the cancellation of the exam. Despite the denial, the BPSC ordered fresh tests for over 10,000 candidates who had taken the exam at Bapu Pariksha Parisar. These candidates have been instructed to appear on January 4 at 22 newly designated centers across the city.

This move has been met with resistance from some candidates, who argue that the re-examination process undermines the principle of providing a "level playing field" for all test-takers.

In a dramatic escalation, Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor began a fast-unto-death in protest, intensifying his campaign for the cancellation of the Combined Competitive Exam. Kishor announced his hunger strike at the historic Gandhi Maidan in Patna, just three days after issuing a "48-hour ultimatum" to the Nitish Kumar government to address the demand raised by aggrieved candidates.
