An accidental explosion inside the Nowgam police station in Srinagar on Friday night left eight personnel injured while they were handling explosive material brought from Faridabad, reported PTI citing officials.

While no deaths have been officially confirmed, authorities fear the incident may have resulted in casualties.

The material had been seized earlier as part of an ongoing probe, and the blast occurred during its sampling and examination.

The explosives were linked to a wider investigation involving the deadly terrorist car blast near Delhi’s Red Fort earlier this week that left several dead and injured.

The materials—about 360 kilograms in total—had been recovered from the rented accommodation of Dr. Muzzamil Ganaie in Faridabad. Ganaie is among eight people arrested so far in what authorities describe as a “white-collar” terror module. The case was registered at the Nowgam police station on October 19.

Officials are yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
