BJP terms ban of PFI as 'timely' and 'strong' decision

BJP on Wednesday, termed the ban on PFI as a 'timely' and 'strong' decision. The demand to ban PFI is not new in the BJP and RSS, with both organisations having raised the issue in the past too.

Party leaders across the country have hailed the move. Senior BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said strict action has been taken against those "acting as proxies of anti-India forces" that were against democracy and were part of a 'violent' conspiracy.

"It is unfortunate that some political parties and some people associated with various governments were giving protection to such forces. Such people are seen standing with such forces now," he said.


BJP general secretary CT Ravi praised home minister Amit Shah for invoking a ban on PFI and accused the Congress of nurturing the organisation.

"PFI is nothing but an avatar of SIMI as it has links with many terror fronts and creates social unrest in the country.

The government action has sent out a strong message to the anti-national forces that in the current regime no one working against the country will be spared," Ravi told ET. BJP is looking to make the ban a central part of its campaigns in poll-bound states, particularly in Karnataka where elections are due in May next year.
