BJP shifts into poll mode, BL Santosh meets Uttarakhand ministers

B L Santosh, the ruling party’s national general secretary (organisation), held meetings with state leaders including ministers, MLAs, and party functionaries in Dehradun over the last two days, BJP insiders said.

He was accompanied by BJP’s Uttarakhand in-charge Dushyant Kumar Gautam.

Santosh collected feedback from party leaders on prevailing ground situation in different parts of the state and tasked them to enhance the party’s ground presence during the pandemic time, particularly by helping people in the state’s 16,674 villages.


“This is a small state. The size of the assembly constituencies is also small,” a state BJP leader told ET. “So, he asked his party leaders as well as workers to remain in direct touch with the people in the current time of pandemic.”

Santosh also reviewed the party’s preparation for the ‘Sewa hi Sangathan’ programme to help Covid-19 patients to be held on Sunday, the person said.

He also asked party functionaries to organise programmes like blood donation camps at ground level, sources said.

“He also wants his party leaders to discuss ways for creating local jobs for the migrants who have returned from different cities to their villages in the state due to the pandemic,” a BJP official said. According to him, Santosh has told party leaders to run a campaign for corona-free booths and villages.

On Friday, Santosh held talks with every minister in the state separately at the party office in Dehradun. “He collected feedback from them about various works done by their concerned departments. He asked the ministers not just focus on their assembly constituencies, but also on the entire state,” a minister told ET. Santosh also visited the state RSS office and held talks with its leaders on Friday.
