BJP MLA's Scorpio kills 2 men on bike

Even as the Supreme Court on Monday cancelled the bail of Ashish Mishra, son of Union MoS for home Ajay Mishra in connection with the Lakhimpur Kheri case, another sitting BJP MLA of the same district, Yogesh Verma, came under scrutiny after a vehicle belonging to him knocked dead two persons riding on a motorcycle on Sunday evening. However, Verma, a two-time MLA from Lakhimpur Kheri's Sadar constituency, was not present in the vehicle.

The incident occurred on the Bahraich-Lakhimpur Kheri highway when a black Scorpio, with 'Vidhayak' (MLA) written on its windscreen collided with a bike, killing the two bike-borne men belonging to Kiratpur village.

"The Scorpio is said to belong to the Sadar MLA. The vehicle and the driver have been taken into custody and further investigation will be carried out on the basis of the complaint by the family," Arun Kumar Singh, additional SP, Lakhimpur Kheri, said. Speaking to ET, Singh said it was an accident case and a complaint has been filed against the driver. The car is registered in the name of Verma's wife.


Congress' Pramod Tiwari said, "In Lakhimpur Kheri, son of the minister of state for home mowed down... Now again. It is the same Lakhimpur Kheri... Is this the new weapon of the ruling party?"
