He suffered multiple injuries when he was attacked by protesters in the state capital Imphal in May 2023. Valte, who belongs to the Zomi tribe, had undergone treatment in New Delhi.
Following the attack, he was using a wheelchair for movement. His family members had earlier alleged that Valte attacked Meitei radical group Arambai Tenggol (AT).
Valte represented the Thanlon assembly constituency in Churachandpur. On February 8, Valte was flown to Delhi from Imphal in an air ambulance after he complained of breathlessness and chest pain.
Through tele-conferencing, doctors from Imphal remained in constant touch with the medical team at Churachandpur Medical College Hospital.
Taking personal care of the situation, the Chief Minister immediately arranged an air ambulance to evacuate the BJP MLA.
In May 2025 BJP’s northeast in-charge Sambit Patra visited Churachandpur and met Valte.
Over 260 people were killed, more than 1,500 injured, and over 60,000 people were displaced after the ethnic violence broke out between the Meitei and the Kuki Zo people on May 3, 2023, when a ‘Tribal Solidarity March’ was organised in the hill districts to protest the Meitei community’s demand for Scheduled Tribe status.
