Birendra Prasad Baishya, a Rajya Sabha member from Asom Gana Parishad, will chair the Joint Committee on Salaries and Allowances of Members of Parliament for the 2026-27 term
New Delhi: Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) Rajya Sabha member Birendra Prasad Baishya has been elected as chairperson of the Joint Committee on Salaries and Allowances of Members of Parliament for 2026-27.

Constituted to frame rules under the Salaries and Allowances of Members of Parliament Act, 1954, the joint committee comprises 10 members from Lok Sabha and five from Rajya Sabha.

"As intimated by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, the Joint Committee on Salaries and Allowances of Members of Parliament (2026-27) unanimously elected Birendra Prasad Baishya, Member, Rajya Sabha as Chairperson of the Joint Committee at their sitting," a Rajya Sabha Secretariat notification said.


The committee is empowered to make, after consultation with the government, rules on matters of salary, allowances and pension of members of Parliament.
