Bill likely today on big tech cos' anti-competitive moves
Lok Sabha member Jayant Sinha is bringing in a private Bill to address concerns around alleged anticompetitive practices being adopted by big tech companies. According to the Lok Sabha website, the Bill is likely to be introduced in Parliament on Friday.

Last year, the parliamentary standing committee on finance, headed by Sinha, examined the subject of alleged anticompetitive practices by big technology companies. The committee submitted its report to Parliament on December 22.

In its report, the panel had highlighted various anticompetitive practices being adopted by such companies. It also proposed various changes to the law which will help regulators curb such practices.

Based on the recommendations of the Sinha committee, the Ministry of Corporate Affairs has formed a committee on digital law. The committee has been mandated to examine various aspects of competition law for digital companies.

"This is a digital competition Bill," Sinha said, adding that there was no overlap with the existing Competition Amendment Bill pending parliamentary approval.

Sinha said the private member's Bill being piloted by him seeks to provide inputs to the government on a digital competition framework.
