Bihar stampede: At least eight killed, several injured at Nalanda's Maa Sheetla Mandir
At least eight women were killed in a stampede at a temple in Bihar’s Nalanda district, PTI reported citing officials. The stampede broke out during a religious gathering at the Maa Sheetla Mandir in Maghra village on Tuesday, leaving several others injured.

In the aftermath, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced compensation for the victims’ families, ₹4 lakh each from the Disaster Management Department and ₹2 lakh from the Chief Minister’s relief fund, taking the total assistance to ₹6 lakh per deceased.

Eyewitness accounts point to a sudden surge in the crowd, with concerns being raised over crowd management at the site.

Mamata Devi, a devotee present at the temple, told ANI, "It is always crowded here on Tuesday. People come for Sheetla Mata's darshan. We too have come from Patna for darshan. But a stampede broke out, and people died. It happened due to mismanagement...An ambulance has reached here. It is so crowded here. Administration is not here."
