Bihar govt plans to develop a 7-km stretch in Patna as 'Marine Drive'

Bihar government plans to develop the seven-kilometer stretch from Digha to Gandhi Maidan as the Patna Marine Drive. As per a TOI report, the envisioned transformation entails the development of lush greenery and an array of parks that will line the JP Ganga Path. More than one lakh trees will be planted to develop greenery in the area.

A comprehensive presentation was made at the chief minister's residence recently, where additional chief secretary (road construction), Pratyaya Amrit, shared the ambitious project with Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.

As per the plan, the proposed park project will have as dedicated areas for walking, jogging, cycling, and even Ghats designed for Chhath Puja festivities. Notably, around 90 per cent of the seven-kilometer stretch is slated for the creation of a 'green area,' with the remaining 10 per cent reserved for essential amenities.


The JP Ganga Path will be extended further westward up to Koelwar (Bhojpur), an additional 35 kilometers beyond its present endpoint in Digha. The extension will also reach an extra 42.5 kilometers eastward, connecting to Karjan from the existing endpoint, Deedarganj. The extended path will be linked to key road bridges, solidifying its integration into the region's infrastructure.

"With the development of parks and green areas, this region will transform into a verdant zone. People will have the convenience of walking and jogging, and those observing Chhath Puja will also find it convenient with the development of Chhath Ghats in the area," Kumar said.

Furthermore, Nitish Kumar shared an optimistic update on another infrastructure marvel—the Kacchi Dargah-Bidupur six-lane Greenfield road bridge over the Ganga. He indicated that its construction is anticipated to culminate in early 2024, signifying a milestone in transportation development for the region.
