Bihar couple begs to pay Rs 50,000 'bribe' to get their son's body released from hospital

A video of an elderly couple begging for Rs 50,000 to get their dead son’s body released from a hospital has gone viral. The couple, from Bihar's Samastipur district, is out on the street seeking money to 'pay off' an employee to get the body released from the district's Sadar hospital.

Mahesh Thakur and his wife were 'told' they will have to pay Rs 50,000. Their son went missing some time ago.
“A hospital employee has asked for Rs. 50,000 to release my son’s body. We’re poor people, how can we pay this amount?” Thakur told news agency ANI which published the video.




The hospital authorities have decided to take stern action against those involved. "Those found responsible will not be spared. This is a shame on humanity," said SK Chaudhary, civil surgeon, Samastipur.
